Your life is a highlight reel: An endless reshuffling of a handful of memories that represent you. We hopefully think that each moment is full of potential, that there’s transcendence around every corner. But, 99% of life is filled with the in-between moments.
Most of these days slip through our fingers and into oblivion, never to be remembered. Some seemingly so insignificant that they are forgotten as they happen. We build all of “this” knowing that it can be washed away by the tide.
Yes—for each moment, there was probably a hidden opportunity flushed down the hourglass. The thought is absolutely paralyzing. We endlessly circle the drain of life. Everyone converges in on the same fate no matter what.
But live in the moment and find grace in what fades. These in-between moments are what shaped us and are no less important. The practice builds strength and the obligations create resolve.
Build, despite it all.
In that moment you are real, and the cup of tea is real. You are not lost in the past, in the future, in your projects, in your worries. You are free from all of these afflictions. And in that state of being free, you enjoy your tea.
